Friends! We just launched our top feature request—a combination noveling progress tracker and browser-based espresso bar!
The skeptics said it was impossible to dispense hot coffee through the internet, but we never gave up on our dreams. Until today. When we sadly came to terms with the fact that databases and scalding-hot liquids just don’t mix.
Next time, we’ll abandon our dreams much sooner.
Happily, the new NaNo 2.0 accounts, profiles, and trackers are live and they’re looking great. You can sign up to create a new account, or sign in to your existing one. Based on questions we’ve received since launch, we wanted to share five tips and thoughts.
- We have a step-by-step guide just for you. It was created by our volunteer developer and QA captain extraordinaire, Ashley, and it’s packed with screenshots that walk you through the sign-up process.
- We ask for your birthdate to comply with US law. We know it doesn’t feel great to share your birthdate with a bunch of randos on the internet. We take your privacy seriously, and don’t store your DOB after using it to verify you are 16. We wish we could go with a simple “I am 16 or older” checkbox, but that would violate the terms of The Child Online Privacy Protection Act.
- You can change everything down the line. Username, project title, word count goal, and account privacy are all tweakable. (We’ve already updated the working title of our November novel 19 times since signing up.)
- The tracker starts working on November 1. At that point, you’ll be able to start logging words, earning badges, and watching your graph grow. For now, the tracker just sits there conserving its energy.
- We love getting your bug reports! Or hearing about things that feel confusing. If something is broken for you, it’s broken for other people too and we’re standing by to fix All The Things. Please send reports of weirdnesses through our Contact form. For bugs, it would be great to know your device, operating system, and browser. Thank you!
